My friend Kadie is guest posting today and guess what, I am guest posting today over at her place. Be sure to check out my post today on some great ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week and Year End. I expanded from my list the other day
Hi all! My name is Kadie I blog at Seven Alive All Livin’ in a Double Wide. I am a crafting mama of 5. I blog about crafts, cooking, sewing, and my favorite crocheting. I also hast a weekly link party with These Peas Taste Funny called LINK IT UP THURSDAY. We would love it if you stopped by and shared with us something you have blogged about. We have a lot of fun at the Double Wide and would love it if you came to visit sometime.
Today I am going to share a simple craft with you that is pretty quick but a ton of fun!
I just learned how to make these ric-rac roses and I am hooked. They are quick and simple but so pretty.
The original tutorial can be found at The Ribbon Retreat.
Lets get started. I am using jumbo ric-rac for the red rose. It is 5/8th of an inch wide. You can use smaller ric-rac but the jumbo is a little easier to work with.
I used two 18 inch pieces of ric-rac.
You are going to start by “braiding” the ric-rac. Which is mostly just twisting the curves around each other.
It does tend to fold up on it’s self, just man handle it to lay flat. I found it easiest to put something heavy on the end of it while braiding.
When you get to the end glue your two pieces together with hot glue.
Then roll your end onto it’s self.
Keep rolling,
and rolling. If you need to, you can place a small dot of hot glue to hold the ric-rac in place as you go. Try to keep the glue toward the bottom of your rose. I didn’t use any extra glue on this one as I rolled it.
When you get to the end or to a size you like fold the end behind the rose and glue them down. Trim any extra.
You can leave it like this and have kind of a rose bud.
But I really think the petals make it. To make the petals you are just going to start to fold down the edges of the ric-rac.
Keep going until it looks like you want it to. The ric-rac in the middle will not fold down.
This one I put on a ribbon lined hair clip.
But you could do so much with them. Put them on a card, a hair elastic, a ring blank, a wreath or picture frame. Or you can put them on a party hat like this one I did in multi colored 1/2 inch ric-rac.
So many possibilities! Thanks Debbie for having me over today it sure was a lot of fun! Have a great day.

These are so cute. I never would have guessed that they were made from rid rac. Is there anything that stuff can’t do, lol. Definitely pinning these.
I love all the handmade roses and Kadie did an amazing job!
Thanks for having me Debbie!
These are adorable! You could use them interchangeably with the cabochons, only these you can make at home! Thanks for the how-to, Kadie!
Lovely idea. Love the variegated ribbon
I know! She is talented
That seems like something that will be really neat to try someday. I will have to add it to my list!
I know. They are beautiful! Great to hear from you today
I try and visit your blog as much as I can!
