DIY Wedding Tile with Vinyl

I know it’s been a long time since I posted something. I LOVE my job and I have been a busy bee :) I can’t wait to show you a wedding tile I made for a blog giveaway. You create it in your Silhouette and place it on a 12×12 tile. It’s GORGEOUS to a capital G! Let’s take a look:

All I did was create this in Silhouette and print it out on vinyl. Once I weeded my vinyl I adhered it to the tile. This was a quick and easy project. Now I am going to show you how to create this in the Silhouette software.

Once I found the scroll I wanted from the Online Store at Silhouette I knew I needed two if them and I wanted a mirror image. It’s so easy to create this in the software. Let me show you step 1:

You will highlight the object you want to duplicate. Then you will click on Edit, Duplicate. It will then give you a second image on your screen. Now to get the mirror image you need to determine if it needs to be flipped horizontally or vertically. I needed mine to flip vertically. Here is what that looks like next:

You click on Object, Transform and Flip Vertically. Now I have a mirror image of my scroll. YAY!

The last name was done in Times News Roman all in captial letters and everything else was done in the Andalus font. I love this project. Quick, easy and beautiful and a one of a kind gift!

DIY Team Wreath with NCAA Fabric

Today I am going to show you how to make your very own team fabric wreath. I have two versions: a fabric wreath to please us females and one to please the males!

You can buy NCAA or NFL fabric online. JoAnn’s recently ran a sale and I got mine at a very good price. Let me show you the wreath that is sure to please the female. It has it’s FRILLS!!!

Don’t you just love it? Now let me walk you through how to make this. When I was purchasing several teams’ fabric I noticed they all came in the same pattern. In the next picture I highlighted the 4 different strips that you will cut to make this wreath. You will need about 2 yards. This same pattern came in the WVU and VT fabric I purchased.

You are probably wondering what I tied the fabric to? I take a wire hanger, cut the top off and form into a circle. I wrap the ends around each other so it doesn’t come apart. Actually, my fabulous hubby does that for me. I wish I had a picture, but if you have questions feel free to ask me.

Next, I tie my fabric strips onto the wire hanger following a pattern and in a single knot. With each strip, you will fold in half lengthwise with the fabric showing on both outsides. When you tie the strip on you want to make sure the pattern is upside down so when you tie it, it becomes right side up again. Once you tie your strips on and fill your wreath, use your muscles and try and push them together as tight as you can and start adding more.

You are now done with the main part of the wreath. Later on I will share with you how I made the Nittany Lion head hanging down the middle.

Now it’s time to show you a wreath for the male:

This one is easy peasy to make and you can make this very quickly. I cut very long strips of the fabric. I did the right side of the wreath in one row of patterned fabric and the left side in the other row of fabric. Can you see one side is more blue and the other is more white. I did plan it that way ;)

Start out by hot gluing your fabric onto the 14″ Styrofoam wreath form. Every few times you wrap, add some hot glue for durability. Once you wrapped your wreath try and finish the top off with the team logo, top and center. See, how easy was that?

Not lets talk about how to make that Lions Head Medallion:

First you will need to read yesterday’s post on how to use the trace function in the Silhouette if you don’t know how to do that. I purchased a 6″ wooden circle in the wood section at Michael’s. These are $.79. Woot! I painted them the perfect navy blue and while my paint was drying I designed  the Nittany Lion in the Silhouette software. Since I had a 6″ circle I created a border to out line the Nittany Lion. I then uploaded the logo and sized it into a perfect circle to fit inside the border I created. I then cut white vinyl and added it to the wood. Let me show you how this looked in the Silhouette:

Once you have your medallion made you will hot glue ribbon to it, wrap the ribbon around the wreath and hot glue it again. For the female wreath I don’t need a loop to hang it but i made one for the male wreath. I used straight pins coming in from the bottom to go against  gravity. If you push it in from the top it will just pop out.

It took me about 3 hours to make both these wreaths yesterday. However, it would take a lot less time if I had a mat and rotary cutter to cut the fabric. I did all that by hand using pinking shears (that was a lot of work!)

I think the male wreath needs something more but would it take away from the simplicity of it? You tell me.

DIY Canvas Painting with Team Logo Stencil

I am so excited to share with you a little something I made! Keeping with the Tailgating Series and talking team decor. Michael’s recently had a great coupon deal on their canvases and I scored a 7 pack of 12×12 canvases for $11.99. Yes! Now, I can’t wait to show you what I made. I made some art work for my team, Penn State. Please don’t send me hate mail! Let me show you how it came out and walk you through step by step on how to get there. If you have a Cameo, you’re going to learn how to use the trace function today! Woot!

Isn’t it great? Now the first thing you are going to do is create your stencil for the canvas with your team logo. I had an extra stencil left over from another project and this was the one I flubbed on and kept for a rainy day. So glad I did!

Create Stencil Using Trace Function in the Silhouette Cameo Software

Once you find your logo and save it you are going to open it up in the Silhouette Software. I have the designer edition! Now let’s take a closer look:

The first step is to click on “Select Trace Area.” Once you do that you click on the image and highlight your logo. This tells the software what object you are tracing. Next you click on Trace. This traces the image for you. If you want to see what your traced image looks like click on your logo and move it. Look at the next image:

Now you are ready to cut your stencil. I used vinyl for mine however, I have stocked up on contact paper and will be using that for stencils going forward. So much cheaper!!!

I mixed the perfect blue and black paints to find the perfect Penn State blue and painted my background on the 12×12 canvas. Next, I applied the stencil. It looked so good I almost didn’t want to paint it but I wanted to stay true to Penn State colors and quickly got over that! Once I painted many, many coats of white and let it dry, I removed the stencil.

Look at my work in progress below:

Once that was done I wanted to add some wording at the bottom. I didn’t want Penn State and I didn’t want a last name. I chose their defining “We Are!” No matter what, We ARE! Instead of painting the letters, I went ahead and cut some white outdoor vinyl that I had on hand. I chose the IMPACT font as I thought it was the closest to the font Penn State uses. I think it turned out AWESOME!

Let’s take one more look:

Not a painter? You don’t have to be. I’m not and I couldn’t be happier with this DIY Canvas Painting with my team logo stencil!!!

Personalized Team Banner (Tailgating Series)

I know when I originally introduced the Tailgating Series I thought I would lose some of you but you are still here…YAY! The other day I told you what my Top 10 Tailgating Essentials were and if you read along with me, you would see this week I am showing you how to make your own team decor taking you from drab to fab!!! You will definitely stand out amongst your tailgating friends. But, if you don’t tailgate you can still decorate for that team party you throw. I love a party!!!

Today I am going to show you how you can make a DIY team banner for your next tailgate party or birthday party, etc. Take a look at my finished product:

Here are the products I used:

  • 65lb. Cardstock in team colors
  • Mod Podge for Paper by Plaid Crafts
  • Curling Ribbon
  • Tape
  • Silhouette Cameo

**If you don’t have a Silhouette Cameo you can design your pennant style, print and cut with an exacto knife and a self healing mat.

I love me some Tennessee Titans! If you aren’t familiar with their logo let me share with you. It will make sense on how I designed my banner:

The first thing I did in the Silhouette Software was find a pennant that I liked from their Online Store.

Here is what it looks like in the Silhouette Software (I have the designer edition).

I chose the 65lb. cardstock setting and using my cutting mat, it cut the banners perfectly for me.

Next, I typed out my phrase I wanted. I chose GO TITANS in alternating colors. I used the IMPACT font and a font size of 288pt. Once I had my letters cut I knew I wanted to personalize it more. Do you see the flame in the Titans logo I showed you earlier? Well, I went to the Silhouette Online Store and found a very similar flame. I cut two large flames to anchor the banner and then used two small ones to embellish the letters. Lets take a closer look:

See those flames? How stinkin’ cute are those?

Last but not least, I finally got to use my Mod Podge stash from Plaid Crafts I won over at Today’s Creative Blog.

Look at all the amazing stuff I won including Amy Anderson’s Mod Podge Rocks book! Woot! I never realized there were so many different types of Modge Podge. I chose the Paper labeled Mod Podge. I used it to glue the letters and embellishments onto the banners and then I placed a thin layer over the entire pennant. It gave it much more oomph and sturdiness.

Now if you can’t find anything in their Online Store then stick around because Thursday I am going to share with you how to use the trace function in Silhouette. Can’t wait!!! It will truly make you stand out!

Dollar Tree Organization

My goal is to organize and purge this year and I just got done doing my boys bathroom. YAY! I found some great storage containers from where else…Dollar Tree! Let’s take a look at what I did. I wish I was smart enough to have taken a before picture.  Also, these pictures were take with Instagram on my cell phone. I really do need to learn how to use my fancy camera. Ugh!

My boys bathroom color scheme is baby blue and dark chocolate brown. These bins were $1 a piece and matched perfectly!!! I used my handy dandy Silhouette Cameo machine to make the vinyl lettering labels for the bins. I used the brown vinyl to match. I liked the Andalus font in the Silhouette studio. This was $5 worth of storage and it looks FABULOUS!!!! I might go buy two more and store my towels so they all match :)
