Pinterest Girls Night Out January 2012

This month our girls night out featured Valentine’s Day wreaths. My wreath that I created, one for me and one for a friend, was inspired by this blog post here: http://kamibuchanan.blogspot.com/2010/01/valentine-tulle-wreath.html

Here are my finished wreaths:

I apologize for the lighting. I took these with my phone :-( I do LOVE how these turned out!

Here is a picture of the wreaths the other girls created with me that night. You can tell, we all did our own thing and that is OK!

Items you’ll need for the Valentine’s Monogrammed Tulle Wreath:

  • Wreath form or wire (you can always use a coat hanger turned into a circle)
  • Tulle
  • Wooden letter (Michael’s for 2.99)
  • Spray adhesive
  • Glitter
  • Mod Podge Sealer

Kami gave a great tutorial however, I’m going to add my helpful hints:

  • When making on a wreath form:If purchase your tulle at a fabric store you will need about 8 yards total of fabric or 4 yards each in coordinating color. If you purchase the tulle on a spool at a craft store you will need about 80 yards of tulle or 40 yards each in coordinating color. I did the G wreath in light pink and dark pink. I did the E wreath in a white and dark pink.
  • I love the look of the initial. It gives it that special monogram feel. My wooden letter was already white. I used spray adhesive and sprinkled glitter on my letter. I did this three times to get the amount of glitter I wanted. Hey…what girl doesn’t like to glitterize ;) To keep the glitter from shedding and falling everywhere you can seal it by using the Mod Podge Sealer. It does take a few good coats of the sealer. Here is a picture of the one I use:

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I made at our January Pinterest Girls Night Out. If you host or attend a Pinterest Girls Night Out please join my blog party here! If you love to recreate things you found on Pinterest please join my blog party here!

The Pinterest Challenge

Pinterest Girls Night Out November 2011

This month was THE debut for our Pinterest GNO! We made monogrammed wreaths for Christmas. We were inspired by a blog that is no longer being published: Flourish Frugally. Here is our product:

This wreath was fun and messy to make. All you need are the following items:

  • Large paper mache’ letter from JoAnn’s ($5.00 *used a 50% off coupon)
  • Depending on your initial approximately 80 feet of thin garland. (Not sure how much I paid for this and was able to get from Dollar Tree)
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon to make a customized bow

I don’t have step by step pictures to show you, I wish I did. Starting with February I will have that :-) All you do is start at the top of your letter and hot glue the garland in place. Begin wrapping your letter and hot glue every few inches. For the sides of my letter I cut pieces of garland to fit and glued in place. This wreath looked awesome on my red front door! You could also add battery operated wreath lights by using floral wire. Other friends placed their wreaths above the fireplace, hanging from their 2nd floor banister and on a wall. Your options are endless. I will forwarn you that this project was MESSY with a captial M! I had green pieces of garland all over the place and took a few vacuum jobs to get it all picked up but that was with 14 women in my house ;) The mess was worth it with these ladies. What more can you ask for with a craft, friends, drinks and food?!?
